Court Upholds Nwisabari Bani’s Leadership in NYCN Rivers, Blocks National Leadership’s Interference

A Magistrate Court sitting in Omoku, Rivers State, has issued an interim injunction restraining the National Leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) from interfering in the affairs of the Rivers State Chapter.

Senior Magistrate Harold Barisip Nwinee granted the order on April 2, 2025, following an ex parte motion filed by Comrade Nwisabari Bani Samuel, the re-elected Chairman of NYCN Rivers State Chapter, on behalf of the elected executive members.

The court specifically barred Comrade Innocent Ajayi, the South-South Zonal Chairman of NYCN, alongside the Zonal Executive Council, National President Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo, and the National Executive Council, from appointing, inaugurating, or recognizing any caretaker committee for the Rivers State Chapter.

Additionally, the order prohibits any public statements or actions that could interfere with the duly elected executives.

Furthermore, the court directed that no other body should parade itself as the leadership of NYCN in Rivers State.

Kue Barinor Paul, Counsel to Comrade Bani, argued that his client’s re-election on March 26, 2025, was conducted in accordance with NYCN constitutional guidelines by a five-member electoral committee.

He contended that attempts by the South-South Zonal and National leadership to impose a caretaker committee were illegal and could destabilize the Council’s activities in the state.

The case has been adjourned to April 23, 2025, for a hearing on the motion on notice.
