Tems Cancels Concert Over Conflict

Nigerian singer Tems has announced the cancellation of her ‘Born in the Wild’ tour stop in Kigali, Rwanda, originally scheduled for March 22, 2025. The decision comes amid escalating tensions between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

In a recent Instagram post, Tems expressed her regret, stating, “I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realizing there is an ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologize if this came across that way.”

The conflict centers around the M23 rebel group, which has intensified its activities in eastern DRC. On January 27, 2025, M23 rebels, reportedly backed by Rwanda, seized Goma, the capital of North Kivu province. This offensive resulted in significant casualties, with the United Nations reporting at least 700 deaths in recent fighting. The situation has further deteriorated as M23 rebels push south from Goma towards Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province. Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has called upon young citizens to enlist in the military to counter the rebel advance.

Tem’s decision to cancel her Kigali concert, fans have expressed mixed reactions, with some praising her conscientiousness and others expressing disappointment over the missed performance.
