Rivers United’s Conversion Rate Was Poor- Finidi George

Rivers United’s technical adviser, Finidi George, has expressed his disappointment and frustration over his team’s inability to capitalize on the numerous scoring opportunities they created in their 1-1 draw against Sunshine Stars. Despite taking an early lead through Timothy Zechariah’s goal, Rivers United failed to convert their dominance into more goals, allowing Sunshine Stars to snatch a crucial equalizer through Promise Awosanmi’s header.

Finidi George lamented his team’s profligacy in front of goal, highlighting the wasted chances that could have sealed a comfortable victory for Rivers United. He acknowledged that his team’s failure to convert their chances ultimately allowed Sunshine Stars to stay in the game and claim a share of the spoils.

The draw marks a missed opportunity for Rivers United to maximize their points tally, and Finidi George will be looking for his team to be more clinical in their finishing in upcoming matches.

Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, is convinced that his team’s inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities ultimately cost them the three points against Sunshine Stars. Finidi expressed his disappointment, stating that converting their chances would have significantly altered the outcome of the match.

“Had we been more clinical in front of goal, the result would have been vastly different,” Finidi said in a post-match interview with Rivers United media. “We created numerous scoring opportunities, but our failure to convert them allowed Sunshine Stars to stay in the game and ultimately claim a share of the points.”

Finidi George speaking; “I think it was a very good game. They played to win; we also played to win. In the first half, we had a couple of chances we should have taken. If we had scored, I think the game would have been different.

“Football being what it is, we didn’t take these chances, and later we got that goal and tried to hold on to it.”

“That free kick, we should have done better. The player got a free header, which is not supposed to be like that, but you have to give them credit also; they fought; they tried to get an equalizer.”

“A draw—is it what we expected looking at the game? No! I was expecting that we would have gotten at least a second goal, so that would have given us an edge. Even if they had that goal they scored, it would have been 2-1 that ended the game, but that didn’t happen.”

The draw has dropped Rivers United to second position in the league table. The team will look to bounce back from this setback when they host Kano Pillars at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
