APP Calls on Governor Fubara to Contest 2027 Election on Its Platform

The Action Peoples Party (APP) in Rivers State has invited Governor Siminalayi Fubara to consider running for reelection on its platform in 2027.

Sunny Wokekoro, the Rivers State Chairman of APP, made this call on Saturday, clarifying that Fubara neither owns nor is currently a member of the party.

Wokekoro made these remarks during a meeting with Kenneth Atata, his predecessor, who paid a courtesy visit to the APP secretariat in Port Harcourt.

He emphasized the party’s intention to make a significant impact in the upcoming October 5 local government elections, stating that the APP is committed to transforming the political landscape in Rivers State.

Wokekoro, reflecting on his political journey, said, “I was a founding member of the PDP… The recent events in the country regarding the party’s administration, that party (PDP) is not supposed to house or to still retain any person who has morals, any person who has integrity should have left that party by now.”

He continued by expressing that many well-meaning individuals have left the PDP, including himself, and have joined APP. According to Wokekoro, “APP is the new destination.”

Addressing speculation regarding the governor’s affiliation with the APP, Wokekoro clarified, “There is one impression I must have to correct. Governor Siminalayi Fubara is not a member of our party.”

However, he added that the APP is open to recruiting individuals, including Governor Fubara, who could help strengthen the party for future elections.

He emphasized that the party would encourage people from various sectors of society, including women, students, market women, and politicians, to support this effort.

Uchenna Nnadi commended the previous leadership in Rivers State, acknowledging their efforts in bringing the party to prominence.

Nnadi remarked, “The way you people resigned to give birth to a new leadership in the interest of Rivers people, I want you to know that at the national headquarters, we celebrate you. The sacrifice you people made is uncommon.”

Rumors have circulated suggesting Fubara’s potential defection from the PDP to the APP, particularly after an explosion at the APP secretariat.

These rumors have been fueled by Fubara’s ongoing political feud with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. However, Fubara, while hosting the PDP Board of Trustees, dismissed any claims of an imminent defection.
