Ayra Starr Makes History with Billboard 200 Debut

Ayra Starr, a talented singer, has etched her name in the annals of music history by becoming the first Nigerian female artist to make an appearance on the prestigious U.S. Billboard 200 Album chart. This groundbreaking achievement came with the release of her second studio album, The Year I Turned 21, which debuted at number 195 on the chart this past Monday.

Billboard took to Twitter to acknowledge this historic moment, stating:

“Debuts on this week’s #Billboard200: Ayra Starr has made history as the first Nigerian female artist to grace the U.S. Billboard 200 Album chart. The singer achieved the feat with her sophomore album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’ which debuted at No. 195 on Monday.”

This accomplishment not only shows Ayra Starr’s exceptional talent but also marks her as a pioneer within the Nigerian music industry. Her success sets a powerful precedent, inspiring future generations of female artists to strive for similar heights.

Alongside Ayra Starr, other notable debuts on the Billboard 200 included:
– No. 2: ATEEZ with Golden Hour: Part.1 (EP)
– No. 5: Shaboozey with Jeans Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going
– No. 17: The Marías with Submarine
– No. 102: Crowder with The Exile
– No. 169: Carin León with Boca Chueca, Vol. 1

Ayra Starr’s album has also made significant strides on other international charts. It became the first album by a female Nigerian artist to enter the UK Official Album chart, debuting at number 80, and it also appeared at number 72 on the French Album chart.

While Ayra Starr’s achievement is monumental, Burna Boy’s Love, Damini remains the highest-charting Nigerian album in the U.S., having reached number 14. Additionally, Love, Damini is the first Nigerian album to top the UK album chart.

Ayra Starr’s success with The Year I Turned 21 reflects the growing global influence of Nigerian music and highlights the incredible potential of its artists on the world stage.
