Celebrities and Super Eagles Stars Struggle with New National Anthem During Charity Game

A recent video has been making waves across social media platforms, showcasing a light-hearted moment during a charity football match held in Lagos. The video captured Nigerian celebrities and Super Eagles stars attempting to sing the new national anthem, which was recently changed back to the old one used during the First and Second Republics.

The charity match, hosted by Super Eagles captain Williams Troost-Ekong, served as the launch event for his foundation. It drew a crowd of Nigerian celebrities, including popular figures such as comedian Sabinus, Odumdublvck, Poco Lee, Falz, Prince Ajuda, and former footballers like Joseph Yobo, Samson Siasia, Elderson Echiéjilé, Vincent Enyeama, and Carl Ikeme.

However, amidst the excitement of the charity game, a moment of amusement occurred when the time came to sing the national anthem. The video captured the participants struggling to recall the lyrics, prompting laughter from the crowd. Comedian Sabinus stole the show with his unbothered demeanor, bursting into laughter at his own lack of familiarity with the anthem.

The anthem, which had been changed in 1978 during the first rule of former head of state President Olusegun Obasanjo, reverted to its previous version. The sight of public figures, typically revered for their talents and achievements, grappling with the anthem’s words provided a humorous moment that has since gone viral online.

The charity match not only showcased the talents of Nigerian celebrities and football stars but also served as a reminder of the importance of unity and national pride. Despite the struggles with the anthem, the event was a success in raising funds and awareness for Troost-Ekong’s foundation.

As the video continues to circulate online, it serves as a light-hearted reminder that even those in the spotlight are not familiar with the new anthem.
