Davido and Wizkid are two Nigerian musical gods, who are considered to make up the “Big Three” alongside Burna Boy.
The rivalry between these mega superstars has kept the Nigerian musical scene or should I say the whole of Afrobeat entertained for over a decade. The latest onslaught happened on Monday when fans on social media platform X formerly known as Twitter asked their idols, in the person of wizkid to drop a new song.
Wizkid replied by posting a widely circulated video of a man, alleged to be Davido, pleading profusely on his knees for a favor, charging his fans to plead in the same manner if they wanted him to drop a new song.
Davido reacted by stating that he refuses to squander his influence worth millions of dollars on “someone whose career was resurrected only to die again”.
Social media went agog with 30BG and WizkidFC defending and fighting for their idols. Popular music powerhouses such as hip TV have initiated voting pools on X to determine who wins this round.
We cannot deny that Davido and Wizkid are the best thing to happen to Afrobeats, they both boast of awards such as BETs and Grammy and are both global superstars, they can be termed as the Elvis Presley and Elton John of Africa.
The rivalry is not just about music anymore as it has become a cultural phenomenon, as fans take it upon themselves as a national anthem and duty.
