Rivers police command re-arrest fleeing defilement suspect

The Rivers State Police Command has re-arrested one 22-year-old Raymond who allegedly defiled an eleven (11) year old girl in Ogbogu, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the State, on August 2023.

A press release by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, dated 17 October 2023, refuted the alleged compromise of the defilement case of the 11-year-old girl and the release of the suspect by Police In Obite.

SP Koko said the suspect Raymond Isiodu aged 22 years ‘m’ of Obagi Community in ONELGA was released to a reliable surety due to some unforeseen circumstance after his arrest while the investigation was ongoing.

She disclosed that the suspect who was supposed to report back to the station, fled after he was released to a reliable surety.

“Following a serious manhunt launched for the suspect by the DPO and his operatives, the suspect was arrested this early morning,17 October 2023, and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt for further investigation.

“We wish to state that the Rivers State Police Command is committed to ensuring justice in any criminal case that the suspect(s) is found culpable during the course of the investigation”.

Meanwhile, Raymond Enyeoha who earlier accused the Police of compromise has commended the Rivers State Police Command for re -arresting the suspect.

Enyeoha also commended the National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, for his efforts.

He urged the Police to arraign the suspect in court to serve as a deterrent to others.
