A married woman who was with John Okon when he was shot dead at Abakiliki-Nanka street, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday night 10 October 2023, has denied the allegation of being the deceased lover.

Speaking to our Correspondent the woman who refused her name to be disclosed, said the deceased has a shop at Ojike Street, Mile 1 Diobu where her tailoring shop is located, adding that the late man is his neighbour who only gave her a lift that night.

She explained that while she was going home after her day business at her shop, late Okon who resides at Iwofe in ObioAkpor local government area opted to drop her off at her residence in Nanka Street, Mile 1 Diobu.

She narrated that the moment the deceased stopped her at Nanka Street, three boys with guns accosted them and one of the hoodlums pointed a gun at her and ordered her to come down from the car and put her face down while the other two went to the driver’s seat and pointed a gun at late Okon.

She asserted that the one who pointed a gun at her forcefully took her money, while the other two were dragging the car key which was at the ignition with the deceased.

The woman further explained that the next thing she heard was a gunshot and while attempting to run she fell inside the gutter.

She added that the gunmen ran away when a crowd of people came out of the street to chase them.

In the meantime, a human rights activist and National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection And Accountability, Prince Wiro, demanded for proper interrogation of the woman, noting that the investigation should be devoid of sentiment, intimidation, and harassment.

He further called for justice to be done in the matter.

The deceased remains have been retrieved by the Police and deposited in the mortuary, also there are indications that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) , Port Harcourt for further Investigation.
