Rivers Assembly Members not behind call for Resignation – Majority leader

The fraud allegations leveled against the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and calls for his resignation by the member representing Ahoada East constituency I, Hon. Martins Mannah, has now generated a response from the Majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Martins Amaewhule.

The majority leader of the Assembly, while speaking to the Assembly press Corps, stated the position of the house and dismissed claims that speaker, Uwaji Ibani, received #600m from Governor Wike for the purpose of maintenance of the assembly complex and quarters as alleged by Hon. Martins Mannah.

“I can tell you that honourable members have met, and I have the mandate of members to say we never asked Mr speaker to resign. There’s no such thing as resignation.

“Rivers State House of Assembly is United and we are working, and we will continue to compliment the efforts of the Governor in making sure that the dividends of democracy get to the people of Rivers State.

“We will not be distracted. There’s nothing like #600m being released to the speaker. I am not aware of that, there’s no such thing like that.

Martin Amaewhule also noted that lawmakers and staff of the Assembly have been paid there salaries and allowances up to date, and challenged any lawmaker or staff of the Assembly who claims to be owed by the leadership of the House to show proof.
