By Tina Amanda

Director of News, Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation, Mrs Priestba Anthony Nwokocha, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

The veteran journalist was abducted on Friday night, July 21, 2023.

According to a family source, Mrs Nwokocha was abducted by suspected kidnappers at gunpoint at about 8:00 pm after the close of work along Oginigba/ Elelenwo bridge leading to the old Slaughter Market in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Meanwhile, The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, has raised the alarm over the kidnap of its member by gunmen while calling on security agencies to ensure her immediate rescue.

In a statement jointly signed by the NUJ Chairman, Stanley Job Stanley and Secretary, Ike Wigodo, condemned the kidnap, describing it as inhuman, wicked and insensitive, especially against a journalist working for the good of society.

The statement, therefore, urged the security agencies in the State to ensure the unconditional rescue of Mrs Nwokocha to enable her to reunite with her family and continue her service to society.

The Union also charged the security agencies to ensure the arrest of Nwokocha’s abductors and bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to other criminals in the State.

The statement commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi, for improving security in the State in the last three months and urged him not to relent in his efforts.
