Gunmen kidnap NPC commissioner, aides in Rivers

The Federal Commissioner for Bayelsa State at the National Population Commission (NPC), Gloria Izonfuo, has been kidnapped by gunmen in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the NPC commissioner was reportedly on her way back to Port Harcourt from Brass, Bayelsa State where she serves as Federal Commissioner when she was attacked by the kidnappers.

The Police Spokesperson in Rivers state, Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident, said Izonfuo was kidnapped on Sunday evening.

As of Monday, the abductors are said to have made contact with the family and are demanding N500 million as ransom.

Iringe-Koko said the NPC official was abducted along with her maid and driver at Ogbakiri junction on the East-West road.

The Police PRO also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has deployed tactical teams to ensure she is rescued safe and unhurt.
