Eid-El-Fitr: Treat us equally with Christians – Muslims tell Rivers gov elect

Brave Dickson

Muslims in Rivers State have told the governor-elect, Sim Fubara to treat them equally with Christians in the state, saying that Muslims are critical stakeholders in the development of the state.

The Muslims said this through their leader in the state, Alhaji Nasir Uhor as they joined their brethren across the globe to mark this year’s Eid-El-Fitr.

Going by INEC’s declaration, Sim Fubara will succeed incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike whose tenure will elapse on May 29.

Not being comfortable with Wike’s insistence that the state is 100 percent Christian, the state Islamic leader had in different fora clarified that the state has more Christians than Muslims and disagreed with the assertion that the state is 100 percent, Christian.

“The incoming administration that will succeed Wike should see us as equal citizens with the Christians and shun any act of discrimination against us.

“We have both indigenous and non-indigenous Muslims in this state who have contributed to the development of this state. Therefore, we do not deserve discrimination.

“Any favour and privilege which the Christians are to get from the incoming government, the Muslims should also be part of such too,” Uhor said.

The state Islamic leader also urged the next administration to spread development across the state both on infrastructure and human resources.

He further said that the era of siting projects for showmanship should be over in the state.
