Delta to host National Youth Games

Delta State has been awarded the hosting rights for the seventh edition of the National Youth Games slated to hold in February 2023.

This decision was reached on Wednesday, at a virtual meeting of stakeholders for the Games as contained in a press release signed by the Director, Press, and Public Relations, of the sports ministry, Mohammed Manga.

According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Ismaila Abubakar, noted that the National Youth Games has since its inception, become a veritable ground for gathering the huge talents that abound in the country.

He said, “Many of the discovered athletes have been nurtured to elite level by the Ministry where several of them have been excelling at the international stage by posting podium performances for the country.”

“Other objectives of the Games is to promote National Unity; curb age cheating in Sports and Youth restiveness as well as establish a standard programme for athletes’ succession.”

Ismaila assured that the Ministry will ensure that the gains and objectives of the Youth Games are sustained.

Meanwhile, Delta State has expressed its readiness to host the Games which is slated to hold from February 8th-18th 2023.

Delta is set to host the Games at the Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, the State capital.
