2023: APC Govs recommend Amaechi, Tinubu, three others

Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party have reportedly selected five presidential aspirants as tailored choices ahead of today’s presidential primaries.

This decision was taken after hours of intense consultation and deliberation as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an interview with Channels Television, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, said recommended aspirants include, are former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; Governors Dave Umahi (Ebonyi) and Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The names reflected the three geopolitical zone in the South in line with the APC Northern governors’ position that power should shift to the South.

Recall that the Senate President Ahmad Lawan had been announced as a consensus candidate by APC National Chairman, Senator Adamu Abdullahi.

Others affected by the development are the other 13 recommended by the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun led-screening committee including Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, and former Minister of Education for State, Chief Emeka Nwajiuba among others.

However, Lalong said aspirants among the initial 23, who are displeased with the decision could still contest the primaries.
