Street Trading: Rivers State Ministry of Urban Development begins arrest of kingpins.

Rivers State Ministry of Urban Development and Physical planning in collaboration with the state special taskforce, have arrested some kingpins who encourage street trading at Bishop Okoye axis of Mile 3 Diobu Portharcourt.

Commissioner for Urban Development, Dr. Reason Onya disclosed this in an interview with our reporter, Tina Stephen, at the state secretariat.

The commissioner said that the traders who connive with these kingpins to trade along the streets of mile 3 markets have shops in the market.

“It is not just to arrest traders who refuse to obey the rules against street trading, the important thing is to get those kingpins arrested and prosecute them for levying the traders thereby encouraging them to sell on the road”

He further stressed that the Ministry will not relent in its effort to go after those who want to deface Port Harcourt City adding that every vice that makes the city lose its beauty must be put to a stop.

“The ministry is working hard to ensure that every street trading that deface Port Harcourt from it’s beauty is eradicated. If I fail to clean up the street of Bishop Okoye, then, I have failed the government that sent me and the public. Its a mandate and it must be achieved, the beauty of Port Harcourt must return” he assured.
