Belarus shows readiness to host Ukraine-Russia peace talks, says venue ready

Belarus on Monday said it has prepared the venue that will host peace talks between delegations from Ukraine and Russia.

Anatoly Glaz, Belarusian foreign ministry spokesperson said the talks would commence immediately after all the delegations arrive at the meeting point.

“The venue for talks between Russia and Ukraine in Belarus has been prepared, the arrival of delegations is expected;”

“The talks will start as soon as all the delegations arrive at the meeting point,” the Belarusian foreign ministry said on social media, releasing a picture of a long table with Russian and Ukrainian flags.

Russia had invaded Ukraine on Thursday, following disagreements between both countries.

However, the two countries had agreed to meet for talks in an attempt to end Moscow’s invasion, though Ukraine had earlier rejected a proposal from Russia to hold the talks in the southern Belarusian city of Gomel, on the grounds that Belarus is directly involved in Russia’s attack on it.

They, however, agreed to meet today at the Pripyat river on the border, north of Chernobyl, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expresses scepticism about the prospect of talks in Belarus.

According to him, “As always: I do not really believe in the outcome of this meeting, but let them try.”
