Anti-open grazing: Bayelsa govt impounds 44 cows

The Bayelsa State government has confiscated 44 cows grazing along Imiringi road, Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

This is in accordance with the Anti-open Grazing Law signed by State Governor Douye Diri had on March 10, 2021.

It was gathered that the state task force on the implementation and enforcement of the law led by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr David Alagoa, impounded the cows on Saturday.

Farmers in the state have lamented the destruction of their farmlands by cattle, urging the state government to ensure that the anti-open grazing law is enforced to avoid conflicts.

In recent times, it was learnt that some farmers along the Tombia-Amassoma Road axis in the Okutukutu community of Yenagoa had counted losses due to the destruction of their farms by cattle.

They said the invasion of their farmlands by herders was affecting their incomes.

Meanwhile, the herders and owners of the cows were not arrested alongside the cows.
