The Rivers state House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Justice Simeon Amadi as the state’s Chief Judge.
This is coming after some stakeholders expressed their displeasure that the most senior judge, Justice Joy Akpughunum was overlooked for the position.
The house of assembly made this confirmation after the Governor, Nyesom Wike sent in a letter, seeking Justice Amadi’s screening and confirmation after recommendation from the National Judicial Council (NJC).
The contents of the letter expressed the NJC’s recommendation of Justice Amadi for appointment as the new Chief Judge of Rivers state following the retirement of the incumbent Chief Judge, Justice Adama Lamikanra.
The governor further expressed his trust in NJC’s recommendation, noting that he had considered the candidate as well as his experience, character, qualification and service, and found him suitable to serve in the capacity he had been recommended.
During the plenary, the house moved to confirm the nominee after thorough scrutiny of his Curriculum vitae and performance from previously handled positions.
They proceeded to agree that the nominee takes a bow as they had found him worthy to execute the job ahead of him.
The new appointee is set to resume office after the retirement of the incumbent Chief Judge, Justice Adama Lamikanra which is reportedly, to be on May 25, 2021.
