Justice Chiwendu Nwogu of the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced three persons to death by hanging for the murder of Sampson Worlu, a thirty-two-year-old lawyer, in 2015.

Chiwendu Alozie, Wilfred Jumbo and Gift Amadi, all three convicts were tried for kidnapping, conspiracy to murder and murder.

The convicts were arrested in 2016 following an investigation conducted by the Department of State Service (DSS) after the family of the Late young Lawyer reported the matter.

Justice Chiwendu Nwogu in his ruling said the evidence provided by the prosecution team and the confessional statements by the accused proved beyond doubts that the trio should face the consequences of their offence, hence the judgment.

Justice Nwogu further ruled that the court was convinced that the three convicts committed the crime for which they were sentenced.

Our correspondent, Tina Amanda, reports that one Chijioke Wisdom, a suspect arrested alongside the three convicts for the murder of Sampson Worlu died while in prison custody.

Meanwhile, some family members of the late lawyer named Charles Worlu and George Chindah, who spoke to our correspondent expressed gladness that Justice had been served, while regretting the fact that the kidnappers murdered their brother despite the one million naira ransom paid for his release when he was abducted.
