Fatal accident in Bayelsa claims 12

At least 12 persons were burnt to death on Thursday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital following a fatal accident involving a 14-seater bus and truck along Tombia-Amassoma road.

Eyewitnesses said nine persons were burnt to death on the spot while four others died upon arrival at the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri.

The tanker was said to be conveying chippings to a construction site around the Ammassoma area when it collided with the bus leading to an explosion that burnt the occupants of the bus.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 pm on Wednesday with officials of the Federal Road Safety said all occupants of the bus died.

The FRSC officials also alleged that the incident was caused by overspeeding by the diesel truck who driver removed its number plate and escaped from the scene
