Bayelsa State CJ grants pardon to five inmates

In a bid to decongest prisons so as to curtail the spread of coronavirus, the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiri, has ordered judges in the state to appropriate machinery for the speedy disposition of criminal matters especially for those awaiting trial.

The State Chief Judge also released five inmates, another three on bail while bail conditions of some inmates were reviewed.

The State Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri gave the order during a Jail Delivery Exercise at the Medium Security Custodian Centre, Nigerian Correctional Service, Okaka in Yenagoa, on Wednesday.

She noted that the Exercise was aimed at decongesting the centre to stop the spread of the deadly pandemic.
