The representative of the State Police Command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the rescue of the child but kept mum over the arrest of the mother.

However, occupants of the Nigeria Immigration Service central command, Calabar, who said they saw the young lady dumping the baby confirmed the development.

An eyewitness, Mrs Regina Akpan, told newsmen that the suspect was seen at the waste container at about 3 am when she was thought to have dumped the child.
