PH lady denies her court conviction on social media

By Brave Dickson

One Nancy Onwukwe who was 38yrs old as at the time of her arraignment in 2016 has denied her alleged jail sentenced by Senior Magistrate, Rita Oguguo in Port Harcourt.

The lady who was sentenced to three months in prison this year with an option of fine was alleged to have been telling her contacts on Facebook that the court did not convict her.

According to the charge sheet, the defendant was brought to court for assaulting one Chizoba Eugenia with a slap and was consequently found guilty as charged by the trial court.

Speaking with our correspondent, lawyer to the complainant, Barr Patrick Sime said: “I also saw a post like that too.

“Actually, it does not change anything because she (Nancy) was convicted for three months with an option to pay fine.

“I also know that she was detained after the judgement was given and she paid the N20, 000 fine to substitute her three months prison service.

“So, she going to social media to debunk her conviction does not change anything.

“As it is now, she is an ex-convict and the records are there.

“My client was not interested in publicising the conviction, she went to social media to debunk her conviction before it went viral.”

Attempts by our correspondent to get the reaction of the alleged ex-convict proved abortive as she was not taking her calls.
