Police begin hunt for gunmen who murdered SARS officer in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Police command says it has commenced an investigation into the killing of a personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS by unknown gunmen.

Nnamdi Omoni, the public relations officer of the command said the SARS personnel were killed as a result of a surprise attack from armed robbers.

Omoni said the robbers took to their heels, abandoning their operational vehicle, which the command has recovered.

The killing of the police officer happened on Sunday in Mgbushi, Rukpokwu community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The police officer attached to SARS was killed by the gunmen who were passing on the route where he was controlling traffic to free a gridlock.

Sources knowledgeable in the matter said the gunmen were confronted by other SARS personnel forcing them to abandon their operation vehicle and fled on foot.
