Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic to be upgraded to University of Environment

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has stated that the state government will set up a committee to consider the prospect of upgrading the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic to a University of Environment.

Governor Wike made this known during a courtesy visit by the KAGOTE group at the government house, Port Harcourt as a response to the demands by the group, for the state government to immediately upgrade the renowned Ken Saro Polytechnic, Bori, into Rivers State University of Environmental Studies to honour the memory of the great Ken Saro Wiwa, who fought and died for the protection of Ogoni environment and that of Niger Delta against oil despoliation.

Wike, Said the committee will study the possibility of setting up the university in view of present day economic reality.

Governor Wike announced to the group that the state executive council, will discuss the idea of the University of Environment at its next meeting.

In his address, the President of KAGOTE, Peter Meede, commended Governor Wike for his developmental strides in Ogoni land and called on the governor to assist the Ogoni people to prevail on the federal government not to erect a prison in the area.
