Sea pirates kidnap 19 expatriates off Bonny Island

About nineteen expatriates onboard an oil vessel loaded with Bonny Light crude oil, have been seized seventy nautical miles off Bonny Island in Rivers State.

The oil workers were kidnapped while loading at the offshore facility of Shell Petroleum Development Company, (SPDC) on Wednesday.

Theportcitynews gathered that among the kidnapped oil workers include eighteen Indians and one Turkish national.

Sources said that the pirates also abandoned seven crew members on the Nove Chovstellation; a Hong Kong-flagged vessel.

One of the sources, a security personnel, told theportcitynews on the condition of anonymity that Nigerian agents of the oil vessel did not request for naval protection as is normally done before entering international waters.

Integrated Shipping Services, the Nigerian agents for the vessel did not return calls for comments on the matter.

However, sources said the owners of the vessel declined navy protection, saying that it was not needed.
