Ogonis remember Saro-Wiwa 24 years after.

24 years ago today, Kenule Beeson Ken Saro Wiwa(10 Oct 1941 – 10 Nov 1995) among with 8 other Ogoni Activist were executed by hanging by the military Junta of Late Sani Abacha.

They were arrested and held for months without charges, tortured while under detention and sentenced to death by a Special Tribunal Convened in violation of International Law.

They were executed for their peaceful effort to defend the indegenous Ogoni People of Nigeria from Human Right and Environmental abuses caused by Oil extraction activities of Shell Nigeria.

Saro Wiwa was a writer, television producer, environmental Activist and winner of the Right Livelihood Award For Exemplary Courage in Striving non-violence for Civil, economic and environmental rights.

Vice chairman of the Unrepresentated Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO) and one of the earliest members of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP).Thus a Pioneer of Ogoni Bill of Rights.

He organised the most Peaceful March ever in the history of the world of over 300,000 Ogoni People in January 1993 during international attention to his Peoples Plight, the same year the Military took over the four Ogoni Communities.

Today (1).Saro Wiwa,( 2.)Saturday Dobee, (3.)Nordu Eawo,( 4.)Daniel Gbooko,(5. )Felix Nuate, (6.)Paul Levera, (7.)Baribor Vera, (8.)Barinem Kiobel and (9.) John Kpuine are no more but their massages, Agitations and legacies brought about Ogoni Cleansing and many more benefits enjoyed by Oil Host Communities today.
