Rivers Angels have emerged champions of Nigeria Women’s Football League, NWFL.

Rivers Angels pipped Confluence Queens of Lokoja one-nil in the finals of the NWFL Super Four tournament in Lagos.

Cecilia Nku scored the only goal of the game via a penalty in the third minutes of the game.

Captain of the day, Evelyn Nwabuoku moments after the game said she was elated for the team’s victory over Confluence Queens.

“I am really excited about today’s victory because it’s been long we won a league title,” said Nwabuoku.

“We already lost in the final of the Women’s Aiteo Cup and this was the only opportunity we had to redeem ourselves.

“It would have been very bad for a team like Rivers Angels to go an entire season without a title and I’m glad we came out victorious today,” she added.

An elated Team manager of the Jewel of Rivers, Matilda Oyiloha said it felt good reclaiming the league title.

“Words can’t express how I feel right now,” began Oyiloha.

“I have been dreaming of getting back to our glory days and I’m glad we got back to our winning ways.

“We’ve had terrible appearances in the NWFL Super 4 for the past two seasons but that didn’t make me lose confidence in my team and I’m excited our efforts were crowned with this title today,” she added.

As announced by the NWFL, winners of this season’s campaign will not only go home with a Three million Naira prize money but also a one week Tour in Spain and this is in collaboration with the La Liga Women, a development Head coach of Rivers Angels, Edwin Okon says will help him in exposing his girls.

“I am actually the happiest man here today,” Okon said after the game.

“The most interesting thing about today’s win is the fact that we’ll be travelling to Spain. A trip I will use to expose my girls to more techniques of the game.

“So I’m really excited that we won today even though we could have won with a better goal margin,” he added.
