Politicians not responsible for killings in Ogoniland – Mpigi

Barry Mpigi, the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has said the insinuations that political leaders from the region are behind the current cult wars ravaging the area were false as they cultist are not powered by politicians from the area.

The senator who paid a condolence visit to the family of Chief Austin Nwakoh blamed the crisis on cultists fighting for supremacy.

He said that what is happening in Ogoniland is pure criminality as desperate hoodlums are trying to highjack leadership of the area.

He stated that before he joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, he was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that no politician has bought any weapon for hoodlums to carry out their heinous crime.

He describes those constituting nuisance to the region as ‘bad boys’ whose wickedness would not last.

“There is no politician involved in these killing. What is happening in Ogoni is a matter of boys misbehaving among themselves in a supremacy battle,”

“It is just a matter for the security agencies, and we are mapping out the strategy necessary to make sure all these things (crime) are over. It will be a thing of the past soon.

“I can assure you that from the first community of Akpajo (Eleme Local Government Area) down to the last village of Ikuru town (Andoni LGA) both in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, all these boys perpetrating these unethical activities and the killing of innocent people will be traced and stopped.
