Chief Kabari Nule, the traditional ruler of Taabaa community in Khana local government area of Rivers State, has advised his subjects who fled the town over sustained attacks by unknown shooters to remain in their hiding places as peace is yet to return to the community.
Indigenes of the community deserted the area following attacks by shooters in several Khana communities.
Khana LGA had come under heavy gunmen attacks leading to deaths of over 30 persons and over ten houses burnt.
Nule said the call for his subjects to remain in their safe havens became necessary following another attack on the community by gunmen on Sunday, which resulted in the death of two persons.
He said that one of the persons shot last Sunday died in a hospital while the other victim is in a critical condition, adding that there is no security presence in the community even though the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, assured that security personnel would be deployed to troubled communities in Ogoniland.
According to him: “As at now, two persons were killed in my community, one Barinemenu James and another person, Mr Barinemenu is dead now, normalcy is yet to return”.
“The killing is still going on. My people cannot return home because even me, I am not in the community. So, if I am not in the community, what will be their fate? We need a security presence in the community.”
