Video: Rivers State Government poisoned Ferry Gberegbe – Gani Topba

The convener of the Conscience of Ogoni People, Gani Topba, has disputed claims that operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, killed Dr Ferry Gberegbe.

Togba in a press briefing on Thursday, alleged that Gberegbe’s deputy arranged thugs who shot the late ASUP chairman.

Gberegbe until his death was the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics at Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori.

Gberegbe was shot in the stomach during the March 9 governorship and house of assembly elections in Bori and died a week later at St Patrick’s hospital, Port Harcourt.

He was an agent of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The party also accused the then commander of SARS, Akin Fakorede of killing the lecturer.

But Fakorede during an inquest by the House of Representatives’ Joint Committees on Army and Police on the violence witnessed during the 2019 General Elections in Rivers State, said the academic died from food poisoning.

Fakorede also said that the family blocked the police from carrying out proper investigation in order to unravel the mysteries behind Gberegbe’s death.

Togba, re-echoeing the stance of the SARS commander, stated that the police did not kill Gberegbe, adding that the state government poisoned him.

The Rivers State Government had during a condolence visit to the family, donated 200 million to the family.

However, Togba said that the family of the late academic is suffering and his children chased out of schools due to their inability to pay school fees.
