Rape allegation: Rivers CAN welcomes unbiased investigation as police invite Dakolos

By Brave Dickson

The Rivers State Branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said it welcomed any unbiased investigation that will help unravel the truth behind the rape allegation levelled against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo by Mrs Busola Dakolo.

The state chapter of CAN who made its position known through its Chairman, Apostle (Dr) Stanley Dimkpa to our correspondent warned the public to desist from unsubstantiated allegation especially against men of God.

The warning by the state CAN chairman may not have been unconnected with the recent invitation by the police to Mr and Mrs Timi Busola Dakolo to appear this week Tuesday for questioning over a rape allegation against Pastor Fatoyinbo.

According to Apostle Dimkpa: “I do tell people not to say what they don’t know or do not have evidence on because it is sinful to lie against an individual.

“Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo said they are mere allegations while the Dakolos are saying that the allegations are true. While I commend Pastor Fatoyinbo for his courage to step aside for God to intervene, I also expect any legal investigation on it to be unbiased.”

The report has it via a letter dated July 18 and addressed to Dakolos that the police are investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, falsehood, mischief and threat to life in which the accuser of Pastor Fatoyinbo’s name was mentioned.

But Dakolos in a post on Instagram said their lawyer had earlier asked them to get ready for the police invitation.

Busola had alleged that Fatoyinbo raped her at 16 in Ilorin while attending his church.

Following the outrage and street protests that trailed the allegation, Fatoyinbo was forced to step down as the senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).

The invitation letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGP Special Tactical Squad, Force Headquarters, Kolo Yusuf, directed the couple to report for interrogation on July 23 by 10 am.

The couple was accused of “criminal conspiracy, falsehood, mischief and threat to life.”

Though, the Dakolos had seemed not to be satisfied with the body language of the police as they have perceived the investigation to be one-sided.

However, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammad Adamu has assured parties to the case that the police under his watch will remain professional.
