Man Embarks On A Solo Protest To Army Barracks In Port Harcourt

Florence Uwaeme

An amputated man, on Thursday, embarked on a solo protest to Bori camp, the division headquarters of Nigerian Army in the Niger Delta at Aba Road, Port Harcourt, to demand for justice from the army after he was hit by a stray bullet from a rifle of one of the soldiers attached to the division on his way to school two years ago.

According to the victim, Mr Emmanuel Chika Madubuezi, he was on his way to school for his exams on the 14th day of September 2017 when he was hit by a stray bullet which led to his left limb being amputated.

He said that the Nigerian Army has done nothing to help him as they had promised.

He said that the Nigerian Army after carrying out their investigations on the matter and after arresting the soldier responsible for the act pleaded with him to withdraw the case from the court so as to enable them to save up money for his hospital bill.

Madubuezi said that since the withdrawal of the case from court, the Nigerian Army has refused to fulfil their promise.

Mr Madubuezi who walks with aid of clutches said that the Nigerian Army promised to pay one million naira for his hospital bills, then after which they will sit with his lawyer and talk about how they will help in getting him back to his feet.

But to his greatest surprise, he said, the Nigerian army has turned a blind eye to his predicament caused by one of their men.

He said that all efforts to remind them of their promise have since been futile as they now blame the delay on the sluggish nature of their investigation.

Mr Emmanuel is appealing to Nigerians to help him get justice by joining in his protest.
