Rivers professional artisans meet PHALGA Mayor on job creation

By Brave Dickson

The Rivers State Professional Artisans Council (RSPAC) has met with the Mayor, Port Harcourt City Council, Hon Victor Ihuwno on the need to have its members secure employments by both the public and private sectors in the state.

The meeting which was held at the PHALGA secretariat also had the state leadership of RSPAC and its members in attendance at the instance of Hon Ihuwno who was represented by his deputy.

While charging the group to be law abiding in its pursuit of employments, the PHALGA boss assured the professional artisans of his administration’s full support in the actualization of job opportunities for them.

In a four paged letter to the PHALGA Mayor and signed by the National President of RSPAC, Comrade Hero Jack, the group said, “we are here to officially seek your noble support and partnership as well as to equally appeal to you to set up an employment committee that will work in conjunction with RSPAC and the state government to achieve the one million job creation recently declared by Governor Wike as part of his 2nd term in office agenda.

“This job creation target of our amiable governor can speedily be achieved if your government also initiate moves that will urge companies and firms within the jurisdiction of your administration to give us employment slots.

“We also want to humbly inform you that our reliable findings have shown that some companies within your jurisdiction are operating unethically, against professionally skilled workers as they are offering employments on the grounds of nepotism.

“Some of the jobs by companies operating under your administration and the state at large are sold out to non indigenes with the false mantra that Rivers youths are lazy, accusing the state of not having professionally skilled indigenous.

“Sir. it is expedient to state that our move to synergy with your office will to a large extent serve as a development compass that will fine-tune a better industrial harmony between companies operating in the state and skilled professionals in the state which will in turn reduce criminality as well as youth restiveness.”

In view of the above, the group therefore respectfully requested the following administrative favour from the PHALGA boss:

*A formal letter of recognition by the Mayor to companies in the interest of the group.

  • To approve the Council’s hall for RSPAC plenary as well as its 2-day joint program.

  • Help enable the group to pay a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Governor Wike for the sake of securing employments in the LNLG train 7 project.

*Through you sir, RSPAC needed His Excellency, (Gov. Wike) to build Rivers State Professional Artisans institution for the training and retraining of indigenes, among others.

The group while congratulating the Mayor on his victory at the council poll also requested him to be its patron.

It could be recalled that RSPAC was duly inaugurated by Governor Wike through the state ministry of employment generation and economic empowerment around May this year basically to make jobs available for Rivers people.

The group also has a membership of about 135, 000 professional artisans drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state.
