Rivers State University receives over 50, 000 job applications for less than 200 vacancies.

The human resources department of the Rivers State University says it has received over 50 000 applications from the job adverts it did for vacant positions in the university.

The vacancies cover both academic and non-academic departments of the University.

The job adverts which ended on Friday, had the department struggling to compile and segment over 50 000 applications from indigenes of the state.

A source who confirmed to theportcitynews on the condition of anonymity said it will be impossible to look into all the applications which were manually delivered to the school.

He said that the department will meet and resolve on how to go to about it, adding that only qualified candidates will be selected.

According to him “You know that it is a state government job. So those who are already working both in private and public organisations also want to take a chance. It does not mean that everyone who submitted an application is jobless.

” It will be difficult to go through all the documents but we’ll try out best in order to select the best candidates for the vacancies”

Recall that the Rivers State Government, in May lifted an embargo on recruitment into the University’s workforce.

Some applicants who spoke to Theportcitynews expressed optimism that the institution will carry out a transparent recruitment process.
