Wike set to name cabinet on Friday

Barring any last minute move, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, is set to name principal members of his cabinet on Friday.

Theportcitynews gathered from a reliable source that the governor is set to reward those who worked hard for his re-election in a keenly contested election that was concluded in 21 days.

According to the source, those who are likely to retain their positions include the Emeka Woke, the governor’s former Chief of Staff; Kenneth Kobani, the former Secretary to the State Government and the Attorney General, Zacheus Adango who joined the cabinet after the death Emma Aguma.

Others likely to make it include Dr Gogo Jaja, who was the commissioner for education.

Wike had said while speaking during a Special State Luncheon for members of the Rivers State Second Term Inauguration Committee at the Government House Port Harcourt on Wednesday, assured that he will always involve those who worked hard for the success of the administration, especially those who served in the Second Term Inauguration Committee.

According to him: “Most of you or some of you must still be part of the government, the cabinet and other parts of the administration.

“Those of you who are prayer warriors should continue to pray. Generally, it cannot be outside this area. It cannot be. It will be people within the system and some from outside.

“Don’t feel that we have abandoned you. Not at all. Government House is still open to you “.

The source said that influential members of the governor’s kitchen cabinet like the former deputy speaker of the House Reps, Austin Okpara; the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus and the State Chairman of the Party, Felix Obuah are some of the people being lobbied for cabinet positions.

The source informed the governor has stressed in several quarters that he wants to run a vision-oriented second-term cabinet, adding that only dedicated individuals will make it into the new cabinet.
