Council boss imposes curfew in Khana LGA to stop killings

As part of measures to curb the increasing spate of senseless killings in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Council Chairman of the LGA, Chief Lahteh Lah Loolo has announced a dusk to dawn curfew in all communities in the area with effect from Saturday, April 13.

In a statement signed by the Khana council boss, Chief Lah Loolo, the curfew will beginning from 6pm to 6am each day.

According to the statement, “the measure is being taken to forestall further loss of innocent lives and property in khana LGA.”

The statement maintained that the curfew will continue till further notice and enjoined security agencies to enforce compliance of the order.

The announcement of the curfew came after Councillor of Khana Legislative Assembly, Hon Lucky Logloo told our correspondent that the chairman of the LGA has partnered with security personnel to forestall further killings in the area.

“Our LGA Chairman, Chief Lah Loolo
has contacted security apparatus to stop the killings in the area. We believe that this move by our council boss will help introduce calm in the area. We are not happy with the wasting of precious lives in our LGA. We will continue to fight crime and criminality in our area, “Hon Lucky said.

In the same vein, prominent leaders of Ogoniland have condemned the incessant killings mainly resulting from cult and communal clashes in the area.

The leader, Conscience of Ogoni People, Chief Gani Topba in several fora maintained that the killings have taken political, cult and economic dimensions.

Addressing stakeholders of Zaakpor community in Khana LGA where he hailed from, Chief Topba called on Ogoni leaders to forge a common front in order to end the killings which he said had claimed dozens of innocent lives.

He also appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike to wade into the situation so as to return peace in the area.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed worries of the insecurity in Rivers State and had ordered security agencies to tackle the disturbing trend with immediate effect.
