11 killed in renewed cult clashes in Rivers State

At least 11 persons were killed during the weekend in renewed cult clashes in communities in Rivers State.

About five persons were killed in Rumuche and Rumuohia in Emohua including a sixty-four-year-old man. So many other persons were reportedly injured.

Theportcitynews gathered that those who were killed by a suspected rival cult group were identified as Foundation Onuekwa, Bright Oteh, Junior Kayi, and two others, while Otochi Ogbonna and two other persons were hit by strayed bullets.

It was gathered that trouble started when a rival cultist went for burial in Emohua and was attacked two weeks ago which led to the reprisal attack.

A source said some of the cultists came into Rumuohia community dressed in black with their faces covered.

He explained that they came and shot a boy from Elibrada who was also identified as a cultist.

He noted that another set of boys came into the community and killed four young boys, adding that it was a reprisal attack.

In Khana Local Government Area, seven persons were reportedly killed in Baabe community.

Those killed were identified as Mgbibari Nyornyaa, Sorlesi Youngman, Dornu Aanu, Bariagra Menebe, Lekia Eleaee, Boy-Mgbibari and Sira Mgbibari.

According to a local source, masked gunmen invaded the community and shot sporadically, killing seven persons, including members of the same family.
