The President of Sports Writers Association Of Nigeria, SWAN, Honour Sirawoo has announced the recall to office of the suspended chairman of Rivers State chapter of the association, Sopriala Bobmanuel.
This followed an emergency Congress meeting of the chapter in Port Harcourt, which was attended by the South-South Vice President of SWAN, Bonny Nyong and his Secretary, Christian Eze.
Bobmanuel was suspended on the 8th August 2018, for an initial period of one month due to proven cases of high handedness, lack of consultative leadership and misgivings of members.
Basing his actions on Article 15 of the association’s Statutes, the President said his resumption would be effective April 2, 2019, among other conditions.
Similarly, the association’ s hammer has fallen on one of the chapter’s members, China Acheru.
The President in the meeting announced a three-month suspension on the errant Acheru for anti-SWAN activities.
“We are putting so much efforts in ensuring that we secure public confidence, and therefore will not continue to tolerate any member bringing the association to disrepute, the leadership to ridicule or the exhibition of lack of decorum in public sphere and utter disregard for constituted authority”, said the President before pronouncing the sanctions.
The decision was arrived at after reviewing SWAN, Rivers’ committee report, which indicted China Acheru over anti-SWAN activities.
Consequently, Acheru has had his associate membership of the association suspended and would not be part of any SWAN activity for an initial period of three months.
