Breaking: INEC cancels election in Bonny Local Government Area

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has cancelled elections in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Spokesman for the commission in Rivers State, Edwin Enabor told newsmen that elections in the area will be rescheduled.

According to him “There was no elections at all in Bonny. The exercise there has been postponed. It will hold on another day.

He also said that elections for wards 6,8&9 in Okrika which had their electoral materials diverted will be rescheduled as well.

Reports say gunmen invaded the Commission’s office in Bonny local government early in the morning to disrupt election processes.

Some Corps members working as adhoc staff for the commission were also injured while a nursing mother was killed by a stray bullet.

In Okrika, the DPO of the Police Headquarters in the Local Government led thugs to cart away electoral materials in the early hours of Saturday.

However, the spokesman declined comments on the injured Corps members.
