Police rescue 3 kidnapped Agofure bus passengers

The Rivers state police command has confirmed the hijacking of an eighteen-seater bus with its passengers at the Rumuekpe axis of East-west Road in Emouha local Government Area of Rivers State by unknown gunmen.

The driver was shot dead while other passengers were whisked into the bush by the gunmen.

The incident which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday around 9 am at the popular Rumuekpe junction.

According to an eyewitness account, the hoodlums shot the driver when he attempted to pass the illegal roadblock mounted by the hijackers while all the passengers were whisked away to unknown destination.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni said the command received the sad news of the event, adding that the commissioner of Police, CP Usman Belel had directed the tactical unit of the command to go out and ensure that all the passengers are rescued unhurt.

Omoni disclosed that three out of the passengers have been rescued while efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators and rescued all the victims alive.
