Igbo-Etche indigenes decry high rate of robbery

… Seek the aid of the Police

Kas Nwogu

The security challenges along the Igbo-Etche/Rumukwurusi road seem to have taken a different dimension as residents of Umuogodo of Igbo-Etche in Etche Local Government Area have described as barbaric, the incessant robbery activities going on in the area especially, along Igob-Etche/Oil Mill road.

It was gathered that residents now live in fear as they have frequently experienced robberies, kidnapping and other criminal activities which seem to be gaining momentum as the day goes by.

Speaking to our correspondent, Mr Chile Ogbonna who resides at the community frowned at the security challenges bedeviling the area.

He pointed out that efforts by the community to curtail it has proved abortive. He therefore called on all security agencies to come to the aid of the community as residents are fleeing the environment leading to sharp decline in commercial activities.

Furthermore, an indigene who pleaded not to be named said that those creating the insecurity are not far from the community.

He also said some indigenes of the community aid the robbers to perpetrate the dastardly act.

He however prayed that the security agencies will harken to their cry and come to their aid as soon as possible.

It is pertinent to note that the services of the ‘aguleri’ vigilante boys was employed to safeguard lives and properties in the area.
