Gladys Nweke

The member representing Ikwerre/Emohua federal constituency at the National Assembly, Elder. Chidi Wihioka has condemned the attack on innocent people in a political gathering at Ipo town in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Gunmen, on Wednesday, the 14th of November, ambushed a team of Peoples Democratic Party faithful on a sensitization tour to the town.

Two persons were declared dead while score others were severely injured.

In a statement signed by his media office, the federal lawmaker described the attack as unfortunate, needless, unwarranted as it is capable of causing panic and public scare to prospective investors in Ipo town and Ikwerre Local Government Area at large.

Wihioka added that it behoves on him as a federal lawmaker representing Ikwerre/Emohua constituency to work with the security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the area.

He further preached love, unity, peace and tolerance.

He said the wanton violence against innocent people won’t be tolerated and must be condemned by all well-meaning Rivers people regardless of political affiliation.

He also urged politicians not to politicise attacks but allow relevant security agencies to come out with their findings.

He, however, called on the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to do whatever it takes to bring the culprits to book and stop the ugly incident from reoccurring in future.

He said: “I once again call on our security agencies to be more proactive and report more on intelligence gathering with a view to preventing many of these crimes that are being committed undetected.”

The federal lawmaker extended his wholehearted sympathy to the victims and the family of those affected by the ugly incident.
