Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District in National Assembly, Senator Osinakachukwu Ideozu has said there is no cause for alarm over the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the 2018 Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.

Senator Ideozu who spoke to Newsmen in Port Harcourt, said there is nothing unconventional about the president’s decision.
To him, if the bill is sent to president, he has the right to return it within the time if he does not believe that all clauses were in order.

He pointed out that the president had raise fundamental issues that are not out of place which the National Assembly would definitely attend to when they reconvene after their recess.

This however is against widespread condemnation trailing the action of the president as members of opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) see the President’s decline of assent to the bill as an indication that the All Progressive Congress (APC) led federal government was trying to avoid electronic voting in 2019′ adding that it poses great danger to next year elections.

But in a swift reaction, senator Ideozu noted that President Buhari’s decision would not in any way affect next year’s elections as there is a law in place that if the new bill is not signed, the old one could be used.
