Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly frustrated by delays in finalising a proposed new contract that could increase his monthly salary from $50,000 to $75,000.
According to reports, the Franco-Malian coach had hoped to conclude negotiations before Nigeria’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixtures against Tanzania in November.
Nigeria are scheduled to host Tanzania in Uyo on November 11 before travelling for the return fixture four days later. The matches come as the Super Eagles seek to recover from a reported 3–0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau and strengthen their position in the qualifying campaign.
Reports suggest Chelle is unhappy that the proposed contract remains unsigned despite an alleged agreement with the relevant Nigerian football authorities.
The delay has reportedly been linked to the resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) executive committee last month, which is said to have affected the process of finalising the deal.
However, the NFF and the National Sports Commission (NSC) have reportedly held discussions and agreed on an improved salary package for the former Mali national team coach.
Chelle is said to earn $50,000 monthly under his current contract. If approved, the proposed increase to $75,000 would raise his monthly earnings by $25,000.
Neither the reported salary agreement nor the reasons for the delay have been officially confirmed in the information available. The new contract has yet to be formally signed.
With Nigeria preparing for the November fixtures, resolving the contract situation would provide greater clarity over Chelle’s terms as the Super Eagles seek to revive their AFCON qualifying campaign.
