As part of activities marking his first anniversary in office, the Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon. James Aforyagha James, has empowered residents with fibre boats, fishing nets and other fishing equipment, as well as brand-new motorcycles to support their livelihoods.
The initiative is aimed at promoting economic empowerment, particularly among the fishing population, while providing opportunities for residents to engage in productive economic activities.
According to the chairman, the intervention is also designed to improve the economic well-being of residents and sustain the peace and security for which the local government area is known.

The empowerment items were presented on behalf of the council by a former Caretaker Chairman of the area, Hon. Michael Donald Igolima, and the immediate past Chairman of the council, Hon. Enyiada Cookey-Gam.

In their separate remarks, the two former council chairmen commended the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of responsive leadership and people-oriented governance.
They urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the items to improve their livelihoods and support their families and communities. They also cautioned against treating the gesture as a political reward, stressing that its success would be measured by the positive economic impact it creates.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Emmanuel Owen expressed appreciation to the council chairman for the support and pledged that the items would be put to productive use to improve their economic circumstances and contribute to community development.
Other activities lined up to commemorate the chairman’s first anniversary in office are expected to continue in the coming days.
