Manchester City are anxiously awaiting updates on Erling Haaland’s fitness after the striker was forced off during Norway’s UEFA Nations League encounter with Portugal on Sunday.
Haaland requested to be substituted in the second half and was replaced by Jorgen Strand Larsen in the 67th minute, raising concerns over his condition ahead of City’s return to Premier League action.
The Norwegian forward had featured in every minute of his country’s previous three matches during the international break and played a key role in their campaign.
He scored twice in Norway’s 3-2 victory over Denmark before finding the net again in a 2-1 defeat to Portugal in their earlier meeting.
City manager Enzo Maresca will now await the results of medical assessments on the prolific striker ahead of a crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on October 11.
Haaland has enjoyed another strong start to the season, scoring seven goals in seven appearances across all competitions for the reigning Premier League champions.
The injury concern comes at a difficult time for City, who are already set to be without Phil Foden for the trip to Merseyside as he continues to serve a suspension following his red card.
There are also fitness concerns surrounding Nico O’Reilly and Antoine Semenyo, potentially adding to Maresca’s selection challenges for one of City’s biggest fixtures of the season.
Any prolonged absence for Haaland would be a significant blow for City given his importance to the team’s attacking plans and impressive scoring record.
The club is expected to provide further updates once medical evaluations have been completed.
