The Nigeria Premier Football League returns this weekend with another round of key fixtures, as Rivers United, Rangers International and Enyimba look to strengthen their positions in the early stages of the 2026/27 season.
Matchday 7 action begins on Saturday with Kano Pillars hosting Sporting Lagos in Kano. Both sides will be aiming to return to winning ways after playing out goalless draws in their previous matches.
Attention will, however, be firmly on Sunday’s fixtures, where several title contenders and ambitious challengers face important tests.
Rivers United will host Ikorodu City in Uyo, seeking to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign. The Pride of Rivers remain among the frontrunners in the league standings and will be eager to secure maximum points against an Ikorodu City side that has proven difficult to break down in recent weeks.
Defending champions Rangers International will entertain Abia Warriors in Enugu. The Flying Antelopes head into the encounter on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Warri Wolves and will be looking to build momentum against one of the league’s form teams.
Abia Warriors arrive full of confidence after their impressive 3-0 victory over Bendel Insurance and will hope to continue their strong run against the reigning champions.
In Aba, Enyimba face another stern challenge when they welcome Plateau United. The nine-time champions finally secured their first win of the season with an emphatic 4-2 triumph over Shooting Stars and will be determined to build on that result.
Plateau United, meanwhile, travel to Aba after a convincing 2-0 win over Inter Lagos and currently remain among the leading teams in the division.
Elsewhere, Doma United will host Warri Wolves, while Bendel Insurance take on league leaders Barau FC in Benin.
Kwara United welcome Ranchers Bees, Niger Tornadoes host Kun Khalifat, and Shooting Stars face Nasarawa United in Ibadan.
Inter Lagos will also battle Katsina United in a fixture that could have significant implications in the lower half of the table.
With the standings beginning to take shape, Matchday 7 presents another opportunity for clubs to strengthen their ambitions, whether in the title race, continental qualification chase or battle to avoid relegation.
