Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has stressed the importance of winning every match in Nigeria’s qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time African champions will begin their quest for a place at the tournament when they host Madagascar in a Group L qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.
The encounter is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. local time, with the Super Eagles seeking a positive start to their campaign.
Speaking ahead of the match, Onyeka said the team’s objective is clear — secure maximum points in every fixture.
“Just like every other match that we’ll be playing, we have to win every game,” Onyeka said during a media session in Uyo.
The midfielder admitted that the squad remains disappointed after missing out on qualification for the FIFA World Cup but insisted that the players are now fully focused on the task ahead.
“I know we’re quite disappointed not to qualify for the World Cup, but now we’re back. We have something to prepare for, which is the AFCON next year,” he added.
Nigeria will be aiming to secure one of the qualification spots from Group L as they begin their campaign against Madagascar before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau in their next fixture.
The Super Eagles are targeting a return to continental glory after finishing as runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
